Hi, "HeyDude" (geeze, I feel strange calling someone that...)
I don't think that anyone here thinks that getting scared in and of
itself will make someone a better diver. However, it WILL affect the way
one thinks. For some, they gain a better understanding of themselves.
For others, they gain some confidence that they can handle problems. For
some others, they learn that, yes, they are human and are somewhat
humbled by it.
In this way, I believe, being scared at least once is good for a diver.
Then again, there are divers that are too damn good to begin with and
don't need this therapy.

It is hard to disagree with a pro-survival decision,
It is even harder to engage in prolonged arguments
with someone who consistently makes anti-survival decisions.
