Harry, your concept about pony gauges is exactly why divers on deep 
wrecks off North Carolina use them. The wrecks are deep, boats rides are 
long- 3, 4, 5 plus hours one way on seas that often beat you  and 
equipment to death. It is reassuring after all that to know you still have 
gas in bottles. But, if it is a real problem you can overcome by restricting 
your wreck diving to the historical ones in Florida and Hawaii.
