I'm glad to see the list is back to normal: you ask a question, and you get
tons of answers, from both pro and con sides.
Okay, I've got a better whole picture.
I suppose that I'll follow the tiny pony tank gauge way, either at once or
eventually, along the following lines:
- I don't plan on looking at the gauge while using the pony. When I
bail-out, I bail-out, and I don't plan to dive deep (more than 30m) until I
have at least 150-200 dives. Since my pony is 14 cubic feet, I can get up
and do the safety stop comfortably with that.
- I like the idea of a gauge, because I don't necessarly have to check the
pony with 3 full breaths each time I hit the drink. Of course, it could be a
good idea to "rotate" the air in the pony...
- Someone pointed out that the tiny gauge has only one O-ring that could
fail. So has the plug that would otherwise go in the HP port... Of course, I
don't mean to think that the gauge itself won't ever blow up, but I can live
with that probability...
*HOWEVER*
I completely forgot to mention that the pony has a J-valve (I use what I can
find)... I don't think it would be a good idea to dive with the reserve up,
but, still, it could be a good way to know when my time is up (pun intended)
when I do my safety stop...
So, the other question is:
Is it wise to use the reserve with a pony tank???
And, how often do you "rotate" the air in your ponies?
Remember, I *don't* plan to do deco dives for the foreseeable future.
Thanks!
