Jim,

I staffed a PADI IDC and its corrosponding IE a few years ago. One of the
candidates was clueless as to diving theory. How he passed I'll never know.
In my opinion, he failed the IE. He had no experience, and unfortunatley,
about a year later, I recovered the body of a newly certified diver that was
diving with him. He had no formal Instructor training during his divemaster
course. The problem with the PADI standards (and they have just changed) is
that they allow a divemaster to enroll into an IDC without first going
through the Assistant Instructor program, which is where you are supposed to
obtain training in teaching. Sorry, most (not all) instructors that certifiy
PADI divemasters do zilch as far as proper training.

How easy is it? Go to Pro-Dive in Florida, and bing bang bing, you're an
instructor. Give me a !@#$ break.

There are some errors in your posting regarding standards, but not of any
importance. There is no Master Instrucor course, it is a rating awarded for
time and student certifications. As far as the Master Scuba Diver Trainer
rating, you take the "weekend" course, and then you are correct; with the
right number of student certifications and dives, you are awarded the rating.
I purposely left out some of these details in the PADI standards just for the
sake of typing less-I was just trying to get a point across.

Raimo.
