Subject: descent rate and narcosis

Here's another question for the shark pond:

Does the descent rate affect the onset or severity of
nitrogen narcosis?

The reason I ask: I have done many dives at a site that
features a vertical drop to a certain depth below 100 feet.
Typically I descend here at about 150 feet per minute or more
until I reach the bottom. I suffer moderate to severe narcosis
(forgetfulness).

I also dive another site that has a gradual decline to about
forty feet >deeper< than the previous site. I normally descend
at 40 to 60 feet per minute or less. I suffer little or no
noticeable narcosis (slowed reaction time.) even though the
site is much deeper.

Speed of descent, or getting used to narcosis?
