Subject: secchi disks and light penetration

I am helping out with an undergraduate research project, and we are
searching for a formula to extrapolate secchi disk depth data for 
turbidity to light penetration.  I would be GREATLY appreciated, and
very good if anyone out there has any ideas on this subject.  

Note:  We already looked into renting/borrowing a Nikonos V, but none
are available.  We also do not have access to a digital light pen. meter.
