Charlie , read the accident reports and then come
back and tell us what the "real issues " are about
safety. You said it , you are an IANTD instructor:
let's hear the virtues of deep air (see accident
reports) , high PPO2 (see accident reports), etc.,
I am still waiting for the explanation of the benefits.
You present yourself as a qualified guy, let's hear it.

Subject: tech diver?

Hey,
I am a former Navy diver and currently instruct for NAUI and
IANTD. I
am a very active NE wreck diver and Dive Medical Tech. To pay for my
diving
bills, I am a civil engineer and have a grasp of most technical
issues
involved with diving.
Now, to my point........I just subscribed to this list and am
pretty
ashamed to even think about calling myself a "Technical Diver".
With the
exception of a few subscribers, this list is nothing but a group of
people
complaining about each other. I am surprised......Most of the
"Pushing the
Bottom of the Bucket" divers ( I think Technical Diver is kind of an
elitist
term...) that I know are true professionals who strive to better
understand
the diver's environment in an attempt to make things safer and more
enjoyable
for everyone.
In defense of IANTD, I agree that their programs and standards
are not
perfect. However, they did step forward and make a very good effort
at
establishing some sort of STANDARDIZATION. Those of us who have
differences
of opinion with IANTD are free to help update the organization.
I read something on this list today that discussed "diver ego".
In the
Navy we called it "frustrated hero syndrome". This has been the
plague of
the diving industry and I refuse to get involved with it. Stop
bashing each
other and let's talk about the real issues that effect our safety.

Breath continuously,

Charlie Priestley
