I figure I don't really want to go down deeper then 150' on air. I want to remember my dives. I don't want to remember, "Wow, I was sooo fukin' narked.. hunh hunh". Shouldn't experience count as well however? I mean jesus, gas management and gas planning, why that's one of the primary things that cave diving is about. Oxygen management, I suppose you mean in tracking the CNS clock.. Well, when you're doing 2 hour dives on nitrox at 100' and then using O2 for deco, yes, you triple check those numbers then have your buddies triple check them as well.. Once again, ppO2's, I'm a wimp there also. I'd rather stay in the water a little longer and run no more then 1.3 during the course of a dive, 1.4 is MAXIMUM for me during dive, and only briefly (well, I had to drop down to the bottom there so I could be macho enough to have 132' as the max depth rather then 125'). Yes, I will use O2 at 20', but only for 10 on then 10 off. And if you mean tracking OTU's, well, I don't bother wasting my time with that.. I did some playing around once, and did some figuring out.. In order for OTU's to be an issue for me I need to be spending a lot more time in the water then I am. I must admit however that I still enjoy watching the people log their OTU's.. "Hey Joe, I got 47 OTU's on that dive, how many did you get?". Of course, these are usually the same "strokes" (sorry George, I had to steal it) that tell me they took a deep air course so they could go dive Eagles Nest on air, and that they staged to the bat tunnel at Ginnie because it's a big dive to go 1200' up the line. In summary, Yes, I want to get some sort of mix training in the future. I'm an absolute wimp when it comes to deep air however. If I'm told that I need to take a deep air course before I get into mix then I probably will pass on mix diving. I usually do 6-9 stage dives a month, gas switching is second nature to me, I do O2 deco with O2 tables (thanks to Decom), and really have no desire to spend the money for a course that I feel is worthless (deep air). I agree with the original posters sentiments of "Why should you be forced to take a deep air course BEFORE you are allowed to take a tri-mix course when the whole purpose of the tri-mix course is to be safer then using deep air?". Does anyone from IANTD care to comment? Tom?
