I sent a message to George Irvine about the tech training issues recently brought up on the list. He replied: > Jeff, send that to the list. They need to get this >in perspective before the body count goes any >higher. - George So I'll repeat my posting... On the IANTD/Mount/WKPP/etc thread... I am VERY pleased that you are being vocal about this, god knows somebody with some clout needs to. Your methodology obviously works, and if you "train" members of your team without charging them $100/course for a ten or twelve course agenda, then more power to you. I'm not a diving guru by any stretch of the imagination, but have tried to carefully expand my limits on depth and getting my Nitrox training from TDI (they seemed like the lesser of three evils at the time). Imagine requiring IANTD certification to order at McDonalds: * basic certification to order a hamburger * advanced certification to order a cheeseburger * deep air to order a double hamburger * advanced deep air to order a double cheeseburger * nitrox to order a quarter pounder * advanced nitrox to order a quarter pounder with cheese * gas blender to order custom condiments * trimix to order a Big Mac (three pieces of bun, you know) * redundant cave certification requirements to get any of the above to go * a new course if you want a filet o'fish instead I suppose the cost factor weeds out a lot of divers that aren't serious about the training, but there are also those of us out here that do indeed want the training (and "license" or "pass" or "ticket" or whatever the C-card represents to allow you to do it) but don't want to get screwed by the training agency in the process. Good work George. Jeff Kell <jeff@ut*.ut*.ed*> PS - On the other hand, I'd hate to see a PADI "resort trimix" course even more than the above.
