Subject: Re: mounting doubles

Andrew,

I tried a couple of dives with my doubles upside down.

My rig was independant 10 litre/232 bar (85 cu.ft) tanks with Jetstream (Odin)
valves. I used "cobra" type home-made valve gaurds to take the weight while
kitting up, and 3m hoses on both regs which crossed over twice, beneath and
above the tanks to come over my shoulder on the same side as the tank.
I used L/H and R/H tap cylinder valves for easy access.
The drysuit whip was standard length, but I needed a longer BC whip.
The BC was a Buddy Commando STAB.

The tanks had to be mounted very high on the BC so that I could reach the
taps easily (this was the whole point of the exercise). This caused a
head-down attitude underwater, but excellent head up floatation on the surface.

The valve guards had to be cut short so that they didn't dig into my bum.

The hose setup was just as good as my normal upright layout, but deployment
of either long hose in an OOA situation was difficult.

Valve taps access was a piece of cake, although a manifold centre tap would have
required some wriggling.

If I could think of a way of improving the trim and long hose deployment,
I would adopt this setup permanently.

Let me know how you get on.
