I have just read a note suggesting that some people are commenting on the lack of good lights avaliable in the UK. A small company has recently designed lights intended for commercial use, but because two of the designers are open water and cave divers they have also created a system for sport use. The lamp head is as tough as the ones sold for ROV and video use, but the battery pack is lighter and more affordable for the average sport diving chap. All lamps are tested to 7 bar or above. In order to keep the price of such items down, the manufacturers do not intend to retail these lamps in dive stores. I do not know the cost off hand, but if anyone is interested then please contact me personally and I will put you in touch with the man you need to speak to (I have not asked him permission to publish his name and address so please come through me personally for the moment. THIS POSTING IS NOT INTENDED AS ADVERTISING. I have one of the prototype lights which is powered by an FX5 6V caving battery pack; it can be 20-50W output but I stick to 25W to gain a good time from the battery. I have tried several home-made lights and this one is definately the business for wreck or cave diving.
