Use of Fieno Test finished ...

The mixed gas Fieno system (40% oxygen, 60% nitrogen) is a different
system to the usual one used for scuba diving. A diver who is used to
scuba may need to make small changes to his technique but once used to
the system should have no problems. Compared to scuba equipment there
is resistance so it is said that you must breath very hard to use this
type of equipment. Apart from that, if you have your senses then you
should have no problems. In the water you are able to work and perform
athletic acts. Because there is no "gobogobo" scuba sound you can get
much closer to fish and they are no frightened away. Because of the
light weight (about 1/4 f normal scuba gear) and the compact nature of
the unit it should be a good selling point. Although the unit tested
was not a full production version I was very impressed with it. There
were some bad points but the unit exceeded my expectations. I look
forward to the day when we will all be able to use this type of
equipment.

How long can you stay under for ...

When using the Fieno (and doing normal diving) consumption of gas is
fixed. That is to say that underwater time is also fixed. "Normal
diving" is when the demand valve is not used very often. When you
press the start button on the Fieno a fixed amount of gas is released
from the small 1.3l tank (5 litres per minute). This gas goes from the
hose to the mouthpiece and the unused part of the gas is returned to
the air bag. The air in the system is used over and over again but
when the mouthpiece is purged, mask is cleared or the BCD inflated gas
is lost from the system. In these cases the demand valve will be
brought into action. In this way, if you use the demand valve a lot
then the gas in the system will decrease very rapidly and dive time
will be short. On the second dive (depth 15m) after doing mask clear
and using the BCD the dive time was only 25 minutes. If you were to
efficently use the gas then 30 to 40 minutes should be possible. On a
dive when the demand valve is not used you should be able to dive for
more than 50 minutes on the 1.3 litre tank (tank is 1.3 litres of
mixed gas at 200 bar). Even a dive to 30 metres should not require the
use of the demand valve. One difference between the Fieno system and
scuba is that there is a fixed limit of 5 litres per minute and this
does not vary with depth. There may be a problem that there is not
enough gas available for the diver but on this test the reviewer
finned violently and did not experience any problems.

Well, there you have it. That's all the info I have for now. Please
remember that while I did try my best, my best is sometimes not good
enough. I hope I did not make any massive errors in translation.
