Hi, I have a question about tech diving that I'd like to get opinions on from this group. I'm wondering what it takes to maintain proficiency in various forms of tech diving. I don't usually have the time to dive every week because of work commitments and I usually have a long surface interval during the winter months. I'm lucky if I can get in 50 dives a year. I can get back in the swing of general sport diving after a dive or two at a quarry or on an easy offshore dive, but what is sufficient to maintain or regain proficiency in deco diving? Mixed gas diving? I'm interested in getting into some of those things, but I'm hesitant to spend the time and money on equipment and training if I can't maintain a reasonable level of proficiency, after the training, to safely do that kind of diving. Do you come up with your own program of getting back into shape after a long (over winter) layoff? I know that in activities like flying you have to log a certain number of hours each month to really stay proficient. I can see that cave diving is complex enough that it wouldn't be practical for me to get involved in. The distance to the sites and my available time would allow me to cave dive only a few times per year. How about deco/mixed gas diving? Your comments would be welcome. Rick
