'Lo Chris,

I wondered what 'The Technical Diving Library' was. Last production we
did is an environmental short flim on Botany Bay which we produced for
the Federal Airports Corporation. They built a new runway for Sydney
Airport out into the bay, and spent millions extra to clean up the
mess: Like they covered 14 hectares of seagrass but replanted nearly
40 hectares - useful stuff like that. They also built the runway some
extra metres higher to allow for global warming!

No wrecks in the filum, tho an ancient DC-3 (Dakota variant) full of
schoolkids kerplinked into the bay off the end of the runway. But only
after we'd finished shooting! The flim (& cinematographer Kevin Deacon)
just picked up a prize in the Seven Seas international photog. video
and marine art competition and exhibition - sounds grand doesn't it?
Trouble is, I can't release it generally cause the Corporation owns it.

I'm just now getting my head into some wreck filims. I'll have
something for you by the end of the year. And yes, I'm interested in
you mailing me that list. Have you got any of the cave diving videos
that giii01 mentioned some mails ago? They sounded like a must-see tho
I thought I'd have Buckley's of chasing them down. Can you supply PAL
or just NTSC?

Last thing: depending on the job, we shoot on standard or SP Betacam,
or Hi-8, and finish on 1" or SP Betacam. For the deep stuff, It's a
toss-up between wrestling the Betacam down in a custom built Sea Pig
housing or investing in some new compact Hi-8 gear. I guess I could
pull NTSC sub-masters from 1" or SP Beta masters for you to make
release dubs from. Is that how you work it? Your advice would be
helpful. I'm usually insulated from the technical stuff. It's the
rest of the team that makes the films. I just do the writing, diving,
looking and pointing.

Well someone had to be the lucky one.

...later

                 Billy
