You gotta have an open circuit option with a rebreather, either 1. as a separate small bottle attached to the unit or 2. a second stage and whip plumbed into the existing gas supply. Option 2 works best if the dives are shallow on air or nitrox. Option 1 is best for deep dives using all gases. I've found that the best rule of thumb for rebreathers is "if something can screw up, it eventually will", so be prepared.
