As to your point about there not being a rig keyed to RMV without electronics, that's not really the case. The Fenzy (French unit) was keyed to RMV by use of a bellows within a bellows, the BMD SCR-4 used a proportional discharge valve, AND the RBC Odyssey which not only is keyed to RMV by use of a compound bellows counterlung, but is also depth compensating. In all three cases gas addition is done passively on the next inhalation by a demand regulator.-Dave.
