Attatched hoods are in my opinion the best when diving in cold water. Until
about five years ago, when most dry suits here were poseidon or viking, all
suits had attached hoods. If you use a full face mask and prefer to stay dry
you will need a hood with a skin-skin face seal so you can put the mask
outside the hood.

Your qustions:
1) This is no problem except if you want to use your suit above water when
in a boat. Then the hood around your neck can be a bit clumsy. Divers with
a lot of hair has to work out a comfortable way to stow it in the hood.

2) Air in the hood can be a problem some times. But some air is good for
comfort, and necessary to equalise the ears. When using a FFM I can move
air form my hood to the suit by adopting a head down attitude.

When it's really cold and windy, the feeling when undressing after the dive
and notice that you are completly dry is very nice. I have not used loose hoods
so I can't speak for them. My firm oppinion is that you have to stay dry to
be warm.
