This months issue of Scuba Times has a good section on deep diving. One of the articles was on Pipin's record breaking free dive. Although the article did give good detail on how the pressure affected his chest cavity, there was no explanation on how his ears dealt with it. It would seem, that with out being able to fill the inner ear with compressed air to equalize them, they should implode at 13 atm. Anybody have any input on this? There was also an interview with Bret Gilliam in which he talks about deep air diving records. He mentions that there are only three people who have survived dives below 450ft, and that this is a "small fraternity". In light of all the discussion regarding the recent 'record breaking' death, does Gilliam's attitude in this article bug anybody else? It seemed to me to be a bit irresponsible. There was no discussion about how dangerous this kind of 'record breaking' BS is, or any mention about how many people have died in its pursuit. Anyone want to comment on this?
