Yeah, that works for every emergency besides jumping with both valves off, or
having a valve turned off by ceiling contact.  Two years ago I was diving
with a guy from florida that turned off his own valve by dragging it on the
roof of a cave.  The valve wasn't all the way open when he started.  Since
then I've always been particular about being able to reach mine.
