Reading a couple of postings from George regarding wreck diving and have
two questions....What the heck is a gavin spool, and what are gavin
clips....

Is a gaving spool an alternative to a jersey reel?... Currently I have a
primary loaded with about 200 feet of heavier than usual braided poly
which sits nicely on the left side of my backplate and works well with a
100 pound lift bag, which is cinched to the bottom of the backplate.
However, This set-up is used in the Great Lakes on dives to 150 - 160
max. in moderate seas. Come august we are off to the Empress and the
currents there can be brutal....other options will be considered....

Gavin clips? I use a prussic knot to secure my Jon line or to put a nice
tie-off loop on an ascent line for deco bottles.... and I have been
known to tie in a carabiner with a prussik on long decos with little
else to pass the time but am always open to new and exciting
innovations!

Thanks in advance
