Just that! -I would certainly say that very deep diving is one form of technical -diving. My definition is that technical diving is diving beyond the -scope of recreational diving (i.e. beyond the limits or with equipment -beyond that used for recreational diving). Some examples include diving -deeper than 130 feet, decompression diving, diving with non-air mixtures, -using rebreathers, just to name a few. Well if recreational diving is supposed to mean(is it?) that you normally dont go deeper than 130'(industry standard) and you try to avoid bottom times that will extend you into the no decompression limits then FOR MYSELF I would say that technical diving is diving beyond the scope of normal recreational boundaries. Whether you are using air, nitrox or trimix, some new advanced piece of equipment or you are just diving a profile that is generally much more advanced than someone who dives casually. Any diving where you have to seek further education could be in the tech. diving category. I know a number of people who get into diving and are more than satisfied to go no deeper than 40 feet. There is a fear among many divers ('concern' would be a better word) about going DEEPER. Some people are afraid of hieghts some people have no problem standing on the edge of some cliff and looking down 500-1000 feet. If the thought of going deeper does not bother you as an individual and you have the confidence to and interest to to do it then the steps you take to get yourself there make you a technical diver. I guess what Im trying to say is if a diver is interested in increasing his knowledge , awareness and skills to become a better diver than in that sence he is or is on the path of a technical diver. Technical diving would be a process in education and experience. I dont consider myseld to be a technical diver but I am pursuing an education that makes me look at diving in a more technical fashion. Its not just 'Hey lets go down and check out all the fishies!'. Hopefully you get my point. Chris
