The first step should be to adopt a standard for non-breathable gases such as argon. Why not use the CGA standard? Of course, we would have to modify/replace all of our first stages... The earlier comment by Marc Dufour about using removable adaptors would also be a step in the right direction. Next, I think we should have a distinct standard for any gas mixture with an O2 content greater than 40%. This would insure that only O2 compatible/clean equipment would be used with high FO2 mixes or pure O2. Why not use the existing medical-O2 standard? Other than these, I see no need for other standards for breathable gases. If the diver can't figure out which regulator goes where, I doubt that this person is competent to dive. Let's not forget, that whatever the industry (or the diving community) decides, there will always be a potential for equipment tampering and accidents. Richard
