Hello everyone, I am new on this list. I am not a technical diver (yet :-) my closest exposure to any tek diving was 20 minutes on a PRISM rebreather in a pool last month in New Zeland. Peter Readey, the inventor of the unit, was doing a tour through Australia and New Zealand, and I fortunately happened to be in Auckland on business when he was there. It was a fascinating experience, and I would be happy to post my comments if anyone is interested, though my technical understanding of rebreathers is limited to the basics. I am sure there are people on this list who have dove them extensively. My real reason in writing is to let everyone know about a non-profit, quarterly publication called Dive Log Asia. Published by Asian Diver magazine in Singapore, DLA is a dive trade industry publication only, and is available on a subscription basis to any instructor, dive boat/resort operator, gear manufacturer, or others with a valid connection to the dive industry. For those with mailing addresses in Asia or Australia/New Zealand it is free of charge, in North America or Europe it is US$15/year for airmail delivery. DLA covers issues and events that would not be suitable for a typical glossy recreational diving mag, including certification agency news, gear recall announcements, medical stories, trade news, new products, etc. We do not review/analyze gear. As the Editorial Coordinator, I am always on the lookout for good material. Anyone is welcome to submit items of interest to the diving community, in particular anyone from the technical training agencies with news they wish spread around, just send it on to me, I'll try to fit it in. To subscribe to Dive Log Asia, send your name, address, phone numbers to: Dive Log Asia Tanglin P.O. Box 335 Singapore 9124 along with a photocopy of your instructor certificate (if you are one) or a description of how you are involved in the dive business. And please don't forget to send US$15 if you are located in North America or Europe, to cover mailing costs (we absorb surface mail costs within Pacific Asia, sorry California doesn't count!). Thanks for your attention, and I look forward to hearing from anyone and everyone. Who knows maybe I'll take that Nitrox course soon, Borneo Divers in Sarawak, east Malaysia is offering it now. And of course, when rebreathers are less than $2,500 they are going to be mighty tempting. It will be sooner than you think, now that Cochran has announced they will be manufacturing and selling the PRISM unit by year end. I'll be in line :-) Then comes Oceanic and Drager, then Cis-Lunar, then... Barry Brisco Editorial Coordinator, Dive Log Asia brisco@si*.co*.sg*
