Let me break from my usual "lurker" status on the list as one of those divers walking the fine line between recreational and technical to ask the real technical community's opinion on a long-standing question. I dive the envelope of recreational diving (brief excursions to 160' and longer excursions to recreational depths with deco). Because of that, I was interested in Nitrox for (a) extended bottom time at rec depths, but also (b) to load my pony with EAN50 or so for shorter and safer deco. To that end I took the first step and got Nitrox certified a few months ago from an instructor who is affiliated with ANDI, IANTD, and TDI. I had my choice of C-card flavor after completing the course. ANDI looked a bit narrow, IANTD looked like the "technical PADI" with all it's certifications, so I chose TDI for what looks like a straightforward program in pursuit of the deco setup goal (plus there was a surcharge to get the other agencies). However, my TDI Nitrox cert number is #525, making me wonder just how widespread the program is (and how universally accepted). I know it is a new agency, and I'm relatively comfortable that it is of value, but I wonder if this is going to be widely accepted to obtain fills. I don't want to start an agency-bashing war, I just want to know if TDI is a credible card to carry; especially now that I'm planning on taking the tech nitrox course to get higher fO2 mixes.
