yes.. from openwater thru technical instructor (the latter last week)

... wish i had the time to post some of the experiences i've had here,
(dave could probably add some too) but, believe it or not, some of
us are really busy.

the largest number of fall-outs have been in my deep air and trimix
courses, and no, i don't give the money back (well, i have a couple
of times). most of the cases have been due to ego and lack of attention,
but you have to realize that some people cannot dive deep due to thier
physiology. just because you want to do it doesn't mean you can take
the narc and related stresses. and too you have the the divers that just
**think** they want to do this, and either get the shit scared out of
them or they realize that there is too much work\logistics involved.

when i was a fresh padi instructor it was a little harder for me to
break the news to an open water student, but the tech industry is just
a little bit more serious. i have always felt that nitrox was a better
way to dive, that it is a better way (you all know that so i wont get on
my soap box). It is important for us to not fuck up.. it's more important
than me or my shop, we have a responsiblitiy to the future of diving to
be safe, to not put any idiots (or any more than there already are) out
there in the water. we lost the rebreathers twenty years ago due to the
accidents, i sure didn't want to wait another twenty years for nitrox or
rebreathers, (or trimix, i havent forgot ya). i dont know about you, but
we NEED, this technology.. now.

btw.. the scuba business is hard, they say if you want to make a small
fortune in the business start with a large one. my shop would be doing
MUCH better if i had taken every student that walked in the door and
said "I wanna be one of those deep divers". and therein is another story,
we would have had a much higher attrition rate if we didn't screen properly.

nuff said..

aloha,

dennis
