Yamamoto's flagship was the battleship "Nagumo" (At least that was one of his flagships...). The Bikiniians have been wanting to go home for a long time. I wonder if the island is safe for long-term habitation even if you avoid all food grown there and import all water, too. Children are especially vulnerable to radiation. Prob. OK to stay a week or two in a hotel, tho. AN ecologist named Odum spent years studying the effects of nuclear blasts on the coral reef ecosystems at Bikini, their recovery (or lack of recovery), etc. Interesting if sometimes difficult reading. I have no references to supply, alas.... ...um, ah, maybe it was Eniwetok, not Bikini. I always forget about old Eniwetok. Try these: Odum, Howard T and E.P Odum. 1955. Trophic Structure and Productivity of a Windward Coral Reef on Eniwetok Atoll. Ecol. Monogr. 25: 291-320. Odum, E.P and H.T. Odum. 1957. Zonation of Corals on Japtan Reef, Eniwetok Atoll. Atoll Res. Bull. 52: 1-3. There are probably more. Dave Ventre Quincy, MA
