I was watching the Discovery channel last night and they had a show on Bikini Atoll. It seems that the national park service was out there surveying the wrecks in the lagoon. The radiation levels on the wrecks was almost nonexistent. The wrecks range in depths from 130 to 200 feet. The higlighted ships were the aircraft carrier Saratoga, a Japanese battleship (Yamamoto's Flagship(sorry short term memory problems)), and an american sub. Highlights included a Navy diver with rebreather difusing a 500lb bomb on the saratoga. It seems the US wanted to know if ordinace would go of in nuclear blast, it seems they did not. Another highlight was the battleship being upsidedown. The bridge has broken of and is laying on it side(not having been crushed by the overturning wreck) The goal of the survey was to identify hazards (radiation levels, unexploded bombs, dangerous wreakage, etc.) It seems that the bikinians plan on creating a dive industry. In retrospect: 200 ft depths 6th largest fleet ever assemebled (all sunk) Subs, Carriers, Battleships, and everything else imaginable. No radation hazards 240 square miles of wrecks Plus a cool name (bikini) I was led to believe tourism to start within the next 5yr IM MOVING TO BIKINI -Charles Dyslexics of the world untie!
