Hello All: I awoke this fine Thanksgiving morning to two additional diatribes from my cousins across the pond concerning the technical site dir. In various manner I was accused of everything from attempting to steal the British birthright to the ultimate of all insults "gross and disgusting capitalism" and told point blank to "keep my bloody hands of their wrecks!" For those of you who have missed some of this let me briefly restate the chronology. I have, as many of you have no doubt, noticed, that the vast majority of sites that we dive aren't in the tour guides. I mentioned this to a publisher acquaintance of mine and that hatched the idea of a printed guide since between us we have a large number of resources to draw from, the net being just a small segment of them. When I posted my initial inquiry, I unfortunately mentioned that I imagined that the publisher would probably not wish to see the contents of the dir. put on-line immediately. It seems that several folks assumed that the net was our only source of information, it certainly is not! Several people got extremely upset by the idea that "the fruits of their labor" would not be available to all, while at the same time not considering that they were demanding all rights to a project when they would only be contributing a part. That aside, when I mentioned the limited number of folks on tech-l, to the publisher, there didn't seem to be a problem. At the same time I had imagined placing the files on-line (really!) since I will probably compile the dir. on a database anyway, but I could not make that promise because my system is not directly connected and Delphi, which is my Gateway, is not an open system nor is it a charitable institution. So before I could make any commitments to an on-line repository let alone a on-line database, I needed a system. Within a few hours of my posting, jr@op*.co* sent me a message offering his system and database, viola! JR has been out of town since he sent that message, but that put everything into the realm of a possibility. So here is the proposal based on the information at hand. However, having not spoken to jr to discuss details, it may change somewhat. 1. I am willing to act as coordinator of site data and in conjunction with jr's offer, place that data on-line which is submitted via the net. This hinges on jr and I being able to come up with a workable plan. 2. Site data submitted via the net, will be made available as soon as it is technically possible to do so and anyone who has the resources available may access those files. 3. Site information I gather via my own resources, will be mine to do with as I please. (period) Now, if that seems fair to everyone and unless someone else has an objection, lets get on with the nuts and bolts of this thing. I really don't care if you folks in the UK form a group or contribute individually or not contribute at all, but if you really want this as most of you said you do, then as we colonialists like to say "Lets Do it!"
