Commercial airplanes don;t fly much higher than that, although they occasionally go up to FL38 (38,000 feet). Remember that most of the jet aircraft models we are flying in today have been around for twenty to thirty years! Above 35,000 feet, fuel efficiency starts to drop off, as the speeds required to maintain lift in the rarifying atmosphere continue to increase.
