When diving trimix in the standard configuration, i.e., bottom mix in doubles, deco mixes in two stage bottles, I worry a lot about accessing my deco gas. This motivated me to switch all my stage bottles to DIN, but I was still worried about stage reg failures since an O2 reg once fell apart on me after an air dive. I typically have backup tables for decoing entirely on nitrox if I lose my O2, but nitrox reg failure is still a problem. My present contingency plan for reg failure on either stage bottle is to swap the regs. I haven't actually practiced this, since I'm too cheap to flood my stage regs with salt water and pay for all the expensive Poseidon parts to be replaced, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. In fact, I got the idea from someone else who had to do it once. An alternative would be to put H or Y valves on all deco mixes, but I think this adds unecessary cost and complexity. Comments?
