Hello,

My name is John Chluski and I've been lurking for a few months now -> no use
tying up bandwidth if I wasn't able to stay on top of my mail and had to
unsubscribe within a few weeks. I feel like I'm here to stay.

I've been a sport diver since 1974 with only 300+ logged dives and 400-600
unlogged dives. Dumb not to have logged them all, but when a lot of your
diving profiles tend to be a) wake up, b) walk to boat (gear already there),
c) start engine, d) head out to open water while eating breakfast and e)
decide where to dive, it's too easy for me to forgo the important task of
logging. I have been interested in technical diving issues for several
years but a combination of a lack of time and money (diving, photography,
videography, boating, flying, & travelling doesn't leave room for much)
prevented me from pursuing technical diving. I've put the flying hobby on
hold (had to give up something) and I'm now working on having my training
"catch up" to my diving. Obviously not the right approach! I'm going
through the process of getting add'l certifications (tech oriented) which I
expect IMHO will continue for a few years due to complexity, cost, and time.
I'm not saying that training ever stops when you're involved in a "high
tech/equipment intensive" activity, just the formal training perhaps.

I think that the techdiver and the cavers mailing lists have been an
excellent additional source in keeping me current - not so much that I'll
take whatever is said for gospel, but it keeps me thinking about the many
training, equipment, and regulatory issues in the sport. And most of all I
just got tired of the regular diving conversations you get into with people
who are "divers" (1-2 dives every two years). Not that more experience
makes anyone better than the next, but I was suffocating for new info and
I'm grateful for finding the appropriate forums.

Safe diving always, John.

P.S. PADI Basic (!!??), PADI Advanced, NASE DM (honorary-long story),
NACD and NSS-CDS Cavern. Nitrox I & II in June. Intro to Cave in August.

P.S.S. Fllow from Canada looking for summer camps for kids -> I have some
info but lost your address.
