Jason, I guess in principle what you are saying is that Nitrox 32 bought from a
shop is exactly the same as nitrox 32 you mixed in your shed, and of course,
provided you use the correct gases and materials of course it is.
However, if you don't know how to mix gas, then a)it might not be the same - it
may be analysed incorrectly or contain contaminants, and b) a self taught mixer
may place him or herself at risk by not following safe practices.
Additionally, I would envisage that *most* potential users of nitrox do not
want
to mix their own - they will wish to go and buy it, as they do their air fills.
This means the store needs to invest in equipment, and for volume this
problably
means oil free compressors, a mixing panel, storage banks etc. - a lot of
dollars. Therefore, somewhere along the line, if we wish other divers (less
technically able than yourself?) to be able to take advantage of our new gases,
the dive industry needs to be able to make some money so they are *able* to
expand their facilities. I guess they also need to eat and pay the mortgage as
well, or isn't that allowed?
Also, it would seem that most of the information that we currently use has come
in one form or another from the "private" agencies or the people behind them,
and so we should bear that in mind when we give these guys a hard time.

Martin
