Joel, As a matter of fact, I liked my drill instructor. He had a mission and I respected it... I've always liked that kind of training - it's humbling and you learn what you're made of. As far as having a chip on my shoulder, there is nothing further from the truth. I investigated the GUE route on my own, not to discredit it, but to hopefully learn something new that I can apply to my diving. The divers passing it off as the ONLY way to dive are what turned me away. I dive for enjoyment, not to brag about how great I am. All divers should decided for themselves what is best for them. Just because Tom Mount, Brett Gilliam, Jarrod Jablonski,or George Irvine say this is the way you must do it, doesn't necessarily mean it's right. We need to do a little thinking for ourselves. I'm open to learning new things, why do you think I question what I see, read, and hear? Not to cause trouble but to learn... Going into a course with a chip on your shoulder would not be conducive to passing it. If I had to bet real money, I might bet against you too. That you appear ready to discount what you admit is an excellent approach to diving and diving instruction because you don't think they're polite online seems childish. Did you like you drill instructor? Your Mom when she punished you? Your Coach? My football coach was the biggest arrogant jerk in the world, but we were undefeated in four years on the Varsity squad. He wasn't making friends, he was turning out players.
