You guys have been so busy with JT that you missed a far bigger offender in the problem here: Mount. If you go back and look at Mouth's response to JT, you will see how this problem gets started in the first place, and that is by the president of IANTD who is constantly promoting depth and extolling the virtues of doing stupid things. Many of you are not familiar with cave diving, so do not realize just how ridiculously stupid that post by Mouth is. Not only did he brutalize Reinhard Buchally's name ( called him "Bernard"), he held up some of the worst strokes in diving who do the stupidest possible things as "heroes" of the electronic rebreather crowd. What Reinhard (EKPP) and the WKPP do relative to what the strokes do is like what Tampa Bay does relative to the local high school team. Let's take a look at some of these CF's. For instance, he starts with Paul Heinerth. Tom makes him out to be some great "explorer", along with his wife Jill. Paul did his little "discovery" of the "pit" on air, bragged about it, and then went back with his CCR and his wife, who promptly got hospitalized from the hit she took trying to dive this place, and then continued to dive it solo for weeks, going nowhere. Jess Armentrout and I went to visit this great "discovery" on a double stage and added to their line while getting out of the water in one hour and never touching our back gas. That is after we had to sneak it on horseback because these strokes did not want anyone diving there who actually knows what they are doing. Then comes Buddy "Orlowski Syndrome" Quaddlebaum ( his name again slaughtered by Mouth) who made up a homemade rebreather out of hardware store pipe and dove the place. Then came the other guy solo diving with his Buddy Inspirations. The only thing we hear from Mouth is how this is some great achievement because of the depth, when the fact it is a prime example of extreme stupidity and the uselessness of these devices in cave diving , especially in the format they were used in. His heroes, the heinerths, were part of another failed electronic rebreather cave fiasco resulting in one coma, one revived drowning, and one death where a worldwide collection of idiots attempted to show the WKPP "how it is done" at Wakulla and then lied about what diving they did do. After 3 months of diving using a bell, a chamber, $30,000 scooters and $20,000 electronic rebreathers, these clowns were unable to follow our line to where we went on open circuit, not to mention the fact that they missed reaching the end by some 10,000 feet. To top it off, they lied about what they did do. Jill Heinerth claimed a "world record dive" of 10,000 feet into B Tunnel of Wakulla. We sent two of our guys back to the side tunnel she added line in to get the survey since she did not survey it, only to discover that her 10,000 feet was really about 5000 feet, that she added very little line in this rabbit hole, and that she mutilated the cave to where it looked like somebody took a jackhammer to it. And, if you read the accounts of these dives you also know they were basically solo diving in the process, getting bent on every dive to, and doing other things too stupid to talk about. No part of the tunnel goes anywhere near 10,000 feet. Our female setup divers in fact hold the "womens records" with significantly longer and more difficult dives than anything done by male or female in that group of strokes on a routine and regular basis , if indeed this were to be some measure, but cave diving is not a gender sensitive sport, so we have not attempted to pretend that it is. It is a real shame in my opinion that Mount is held in such high regard among those who don't know it or do it, and of course among the strokes, and it is even more unfortunate that he teaches any kind of diving at all with this attitude. I think JT hit a new low when he held Mount's nonsense up as some great thing, and I think by now everyone can see what the thinking is from those of us who really have a sound message to deliver and who actually do set a good example while doing what the strokes can't seem to do ever. I hope JT got a pat on the head from Mouth for his deep thing, and I hope JT realized that if Mouth can do it, then bragging about it is pretty lame, and I hope that he and everyone else can see this fine example of the "John Rose Rule", which states that "If you find yourself in agreement with Tom Mount, you are probably wrong". -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
