It is called Deipolder. Bill Gavin and I went and checked out the "400" feet, the "Jumbo Go" and the rest of the silliness' that those guys spewed out and it was in fact 330, a little clay mess, and only went a tad further than the people you are thinking of said it did. We also see some 330 spots (328 to be exact) in areas of Wakulla and other WKP caves in pit like formations with little drain tunnels pinching off, but most of the caves will tend to want to be at a similar depth in each region. In the WKP that seems to either be 220-240 or 260-300, with some 100 foot areas. There is a preponderance of 311 feet , for some reason, and a lot of 285. Most of the time we try to ride as high as possible to keep the physical beating to a minimum. Spring Creek, which you mentioned, seems to be the resurgence point for a confluence of caves in the WKPP and has at least 8 sink hole outlets at the edge of Apalachee Bay. These are tough to dive due to the ridiculous flow, so we try to get them when there are exceptionally high tides and low rain levels. There are a lot of extensive systems in Florida, but as you know from dry caving, you are not going to see all the levels and connections due to the clay and such being full of water and blocking the little passages. When a cave is dry, all that settles down and opens up more passage. The monster passages and conduits run for long distances much like they do in dry caves. On your question of when are we going to make big pushes, the answer is simply that we dive these places when they are right and we take what they give us. JJ and I usually go in with the "let's just take it easy and see what happens", and come out with empty reels or a nice set up dive. All our dives are the same in that we apply what is significantly more fire power than is necessary, and if we break loose , well we break loose and otherwise we just come back with more information than we had the day before. -----Original Message----- From: BllFs6@ao*.co* [mailto:BllFs6@ao*.co*] Sent: Wednesday, April 02, 2003 4:47 AM To: girvine@be*.ne* Subject: Re: major potential cave systems? Hi George Thanks for the reply! Did not mean to "diss" WKPP by using it as a semigeneral term...I meant it as a reference to the much more modern approaches applied over the last 10 year or so involving intelligent use of helium, deco, scooters etc etc... You and your guys work at the WKP is amazing...are you folks ever gonna get to do another big push? Maybe it was some other place besides Eagles Nest that I am remembering....the detail of going passage closer to the 400 foot level just seems to be stuck in my mind... When Wakulla connects with Leon Sinks what will be the straight line distance from entrance to entrance? What would you expect the traveled/true distance traveled to be? I certainly agree that there is some ungodly stupidity out there...I just hung out a Ginnie springs last year for about a week...relaxing around the springs....I expect a cave diving death virtually every day with just the things I could see on the surface! thanks for the reply take care Bill PS...no wonder you guys can get so damn far! You wait until the water conditions make it "drivable":) ------=_NextPart_000_0009_01C2F8E2.87F51B40 Content-Type: text/html; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HTML><HEAD> <META http-equiv=3DContent-Type content=3D"text/html; = charset=3Dus-ascii"> <META content=3D"MSHTML 5.50.4728.2300" name=3DGENERATOR></HEAD> <BODY> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial color=3D#0000ff size=3D2><SPAN = class=3D652111511-02042003>Bill,=20 the cave that got called 400 feet deep is just up the street from Eagles = Nest.=20 It is called Deipolder.
