Christina, I knew I'd be hearing from you on this. How ya doing? Long time,
no argue! :-)
Although the accident rate is not the most comforting thing, the *cause* of
the accidents are what really bothers me. It seems that most of them fall
under "mysterious" (or the ubiquitous "heart attack") circumstances. It's
also strange how there is never a buddy around to tell us what happened when
one of these things go south. When one coroner put the death down to
drowning brought on by either hypercapnea or hyperoxia the manufacturer was
very vocal for the hypercapnea explaination. Why? because hypercapnea is
stupidity and hyperoxia is a malfunction (In general- don't get convoluted
on me). Interesting position since the victim was seen convulsing prior to a
botched rescue.

> Also, don't you think you play the odds whenever you leave your house in
the morning?

Yup, and I do whatever I can to improve them in my favor. I like to fly
aircraft with two engines at night and over inhospitable terrain (and there
ain't a single computer controlling any flight critical operation). I
suppose if you're a Calvinist (your fate is predetermined) it doesn't matter
how much you walk to the edge and laugh at death, but some of us that feel
we have some control over living and dying and work towards risk
minimization. Of course, I don't look so cool on the boat and website, but I
can live with that.
