According to the Aquanaut website:

Aquanaut.COM Web Server Attacked

On November 1st, an intruder exploited a loophole in the web server
that supports this site. Amongst other things, they uploaded and ran
a program that infected the system and did significant damage to
files on the web server.

We have restored most of the system, but some files are on tapes that
had just been sent off-site. Only older, out-of-date copies remain
on-site. The TechDiver subscription list is one such file.

Members of this list should resubscribe, by sending email to
techdiver-request@aquanaut.com with the single word subscribe in the
text part of the message (i.e., not in the Subject). We will get
round to retrieving the tapes and restoring the missing files, but
this won't happen for a few days, by which time many folk will
probably have resubscribed anyway, making the point moot. Sorry.

We have manually resubscribed all folk who have posted to the list in
the last few months.

On November 5th, further suspicious entries in our system logs led us
to disable our listserver again. TechDiver was affected. Mail sent to
the list and the list server was unceremoniously bounced during the
day. The cause of the entries was eventually determined and isolated,
and the listserver has been re-enabeled. Apologies for the further
inconvenience.

My guess is that either people aren't participating right now because
they don't realize the listserver is working again, or the listserver
is still having some problems. Either way, it might take a few weeks
for things to return to normal.

Alan
