A bad design is a bad design. Go find a friend who is an engineer
(mechanical or aerospace), show him the two designs side by side and have
him (or her :-) ) comment. Maybe you can take their word for it. (It is
better if this person would be a non-diver, as then you would have ZERO
complaints about their objectivity). I am such an engineer, though I am
sure you wouldn't take my word on it.

Anyone who demands proof should go out and find it instead of demanding for
it. I remember reading that after one of the most recent (Inspiration)
deaths the UK HSE (?) or a coroner DID comment that the death was
questionable and the equipment needed to be looked at closer. (ok - not
sure which one of the two)

Your life is in your hands - and mine is in my hands - that is why I dive
open circuit and will continue to do so. If you choose to dive with a more
complicated peace of gear, you have to choose amongst them, but try to be
objective when doing so. (Just because the Buddy is made in the UK is no
reason to dive it; ex: the Concorde wastes fuel and is VERY loud and flies
at a loss to the airlines simply because the British and the French want a
symbol of their aerospace accomplishments up in the air - totally
impractical even from the business standpoint, yet still around)

I know statistics can be lied with, but these are piss-poor examples, since
the numbers are not disputed by ANYONE - not even Diver magazine's Trewavas
who is pro-rebreather and pro-Inspiration.

Although open circuit is 'safer', omitting decompression is equally
dangerous, and unless the RB-80 PREVENTED the divers in question from
decompressing properly (and carrying proper bailout to do so in the event of
failure), then you (and the others posting in similar tones) have no
argument.

Next question?

Direct examination of psychologically healthy people shows pretty clearly
that they are positively attracted to the mysterious, to the unknown, to the
puzzling and unexplained. This is noteworthy because it contrasts sharply
with the psychologically sick person's tendency to be threatened by the
unfamiliar, the ambiguous , the unknown.

General Psychology.
