For instance, as I showed you when I was out there, when you remove the clutch , you must replace the screw for two reasons: one, the fine threads strip out and the washer stack pops pop off ( making the prop set fall off) , and two, if the screw slot buggers at all, you will not be able to get it off without removing the motor next time. A 5 cent solution, but you have to know that, and you guys asked, and so we bought a handful of new screws at the marine store where you keep the boat.. The owner's manual has these and other tricks of the trade as well as the protocols used in the WKPP in case of problems with scooters. We dive long distance with several vehicles at once, and have seen it all, and we always come back.. JT is not going to be that lucky because he is too proud to ask me, and nobody has the knowledge and experience with these things that I have. He would rather climb a tree to listen to an idiot than stand on the ground and hear the real thing, but then that is evident to all. The more you dive seriously, the more you will appreciate why I make the scooters for the WKPP - my life depends on it, and the more of these things I handle, build, repair or use, the more issues I see form the hundreds of users out there, the more secure I get about what I am doing with them. The little details are everything. Most of these things I never hear about again once they go out. I just serviced one for Todd Kincaid. The motor was dated 1987, and I merely took it out of his scooter, put it in one of Mike Madden's Mako's without even having to change the seal , and installed a new rewind in Todd's. I just checked out one of Casey McKinlays that is ten years old for a big dive we were doing, and found nothing to fix. I also put new batteries in 3 of Jarrod's with one of them needing a trigger adjustment. -----Original Message----- From: JCarlCalvin@ao*.co* [mailto:JCarlCalvin@ao*.co*] Sent: Tuesday, August 13, 2002 1:07 AM To: trey@my*.ne*; jim@sh*.ne*; captjt@mi*.co* Cc: quest@gu*.co*; vbtech@ci*.co*; techdiver@aquanaut.com Subject: Re: Cheap parts - video? RE: Cut to the chaseRE: VBTech vs. Nova Tech George: Garry Wilson and I dive your Gavins on every dive and have for many months. We have had numerous problems because we are constantly pushing them to the limit. The worst was a prop coming off at 297' in depth and 2000 feet from the boat (funny how fast a fin in the prop will cause a problem). The other scooter brought us home safe and sound. We are satisfied with the equipment and especially the support and improvements. I don't think either Garry or myself are mentally deficient in selecting and testing dive gear and we don't lack the funds to buy the best. Now why do you suppose we are still using Gavins? I know someone is going to say we are just kissing George's ass. I am 58 and retired to Hawaii when I was 55. Garry is 62 and retired way back. We both work here for the fun of it and couldn't care less who is popular or even powerful in the diving world.
