To: techdiver@aquanaut.com Simon: The video that Dave shot does show "recreational diving at it's worst," it shows it at it's most normal. I've dove all over with world, have assited with the instruction of numerous students, and what you saw is pretty status quo. As for others having the same bouyancy as taught by GUE, that is certainly possible and on rare exception I have seen it. But when you peel back the covers a bit you find that this bouyancy usually occurs only in ideal situations. Introduce an emergency to the non-GUE diver, trigger an OOA, or anything outside the norm and their "ideal" bouyancy quickly turns to shambles. So, it's not how good one's bouyancy is sitting at deco, it's how good one's bouyancy is during a clutch when that calm thinking and expert technique can result in a safe conclusion or an accident. This is why critical skills training is so important and why it is taught from the ground floor by GUE during the Fundamental's course. Dave's video only shows a very small sliver of those skills imparted to our divers. Hope this helps, Tod -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
