Hi Chris ! >Technical diving is in grave danger of becoming 'fashionable'. > We have already had a few threads on the subject of "technical > diving wanabe's". Well unfortunately we are going to se a lot more! I think most of the new generation of divers started because diving sounded interesting and we heard from friends that it was fun. I don't think this is a grave danger to tech diving as long as we keep a high level of education programs. there will always be those that do stupid things but the majority of divers wil grow to be good divers. and also remember that quantities bring a reduction in costs, my banker will shore be happy if that happens. >To my mind this begs a few questions. If the 'Trimix' divers were qualified, >why divea wreck in 40-45MSW on mix?( unless they had a particular >sensitivity to narcosis) Why create further 'equipment stress' by using 2 stag s etc. >when it should have been >an air dive with Eanx or O2 deco?. The list is end ess I'm not familiar with UK training or way that particular diver dived with 2 stages but at my part of the world we sum time dive shallow dives (30msw) with TriMix for training purposes. when I started Deep Air I have done 4 dives to 30msw with 3 and 4 deco stops only for deco regulations behavior and emergencies training. >what we do not have is education beyond initial certification. Divers pass the theory >demonstrate certain in water skills & then are let loose waving a C card. I kn w lots >of instructors who care enough to advise students on the way foreward and ensu e >that they have a 'feel' for a particular mindset that will hopefully mean the tudent will >progress in a logical manner. I'll have to agree on that, I have seen a lot of new divers that think basic OW is all they need to survive underwater. this is certainly not the case in tech diving. c u soon.
