Mine Rescue engineers have been in contact with JJ and he would probably pick
some guys from the WKPP if he was going to be involved. They have also
contacted NEST (northeast sump exploration team). NEST has qualified divers
that live very close to the accident site but it sounds to me like it would
be a job for the rebreathers. As of this morning, Mine Rescue said the navy
was getting involved which means civilian divers will probably not be asked
to participate. The miners are said to be trapped 8000 feet from the
entrance and the water is about 30 feet deep. Even if a diver could reach
their location it would be almost impossible to bring an injured miner back
on scuba. The most good that a diver could do would be to locate the miners
and relay their exact location to the drilling rigs. Mine Rescue is
federally funded and has millions of dollars of pumping and drilling
equipment. I believe this is their best chance. Glen
