Because in the UK we have very strong tides ( Guernsey tidal range
can be 8m or more ) it would be nigh on impossible to ascend on once the tide
turns. We all deco out on bags. (See http://www.ue-uk.org/procedures.htm)
The live boat debate is moot in the UK.
During deco, the boat follows the 'pack' of decoing divers & protects them from
any shipping. There is always one bag per diver & identified with big letters
on the bag. All divers carry all their gas. As the dive times are known
before anyone gets in the water, top to top times are arranged so everyone
is decoing at the same time. We ALWAYS charter the whole boat & there are never
extra people doing their own thing to screw up the team.

For bigger divers, 80m or more typically, a trapeze system is the prefered
method.

Anyone with a GUE card is very welcome to dive with us - others need not
apply.

Many thanks to the Nova tech guys for sharing their experience,
best,
Dave
