List, I have a general question and am in need of some advice on best practices on the subject of rigging and lifting an object (pipe-like, slightly curved) approximately 8' long and 1' in diameter (about 50 lbs total) off the bottom. (Yes - it sounds like a pipe) The problem is more in the stability than in purely attaching enough bags. Aside from the general question of whether to take or not take objects off the bottom (which is an issue I don't want to get into), I really want to know if people out there have made some sort of generic sling to attach bags to odd-shaped objects. My thoughts were that a length of heavy nylon rope would be knotted with small loops along its length (every 2' or so) and would be a more or less 'universal' sling to attach larger objects to bags, as using just one bag at the center of gravity (assuming you can accurately estimate it on an odd-shaped object) would lead to an unstable situation. Two bags simply tied to each end also doesn't seem like a great idea due to the synchronization needed between filling them. So, if anyone has any advice or experience on this, I would greatly appreciate it. (I realize that 'large' is a relative term and I am sure the item in question is 'small' to some on the list. Bear with me...)
