David

I started out with a DUI 200g thinsulate for UK diving (4-18 Deg C). I had to
add convolutions to stay warm for 60-90+ minute dives in the winter, so I
bought a 400g thinsulate, intending to keep the 200g for summer and the 400g
for end of season. Of course, I never reverted back to the 200g since the
extra bulk of the 400g was compensated for by warmth and comfort. The 200g is
now only used for warm water diving.

10 Deg C for an hour would be in the borderline for me, and it would depend on
how much of this was active and how much deco and the other temps I would dive
in.

I can't speak about diving in Oz so would not wish to be prescriptive in my
reply.

While we are on the topic of drysuits I have a question:

I have been improvising my undergarments by using thermals more appropriate
for camping than diving. I realise now that this is not such a good idea. I
suspect I may be carrying excessive weight since I have to compensate for
the lack of warmth from the garments by adding more air. What sort of
undergarment who be suitable for dives in 10degC (around 50degF) water with
exposure times of around one hour?

(If there happen to be any Aussie divers that can comment about products
available here in Australia that would be helpful - I'm basically talking
about Melbourne dives in mid-winter)

Thanks, Dave
