I originally sent the following to Jim off list, but since that piece of crap was posted I asked his permission to re post it to the list. God knows it's nothing profound or so important you HAVE to know, but I refuse to let bullshit like that go unchallenged or to let the dick head that wrote it believe we are sitting here acceptingly, thinking he is anything other than a gutless wimp. There is ONE guy in this whole discussion leading the way with class and courage. ************************************************************************** on 8/5/02 4:15 AM, James Cobb at cobber@ci*.co* wrote: > Don't pass judgment on this course from the posts. Hi Jim We had to postpone our Downunder Fundamentals course to November in Sydney, but I am looking forward (with more trepidation now than I was earlier!) to finding out where the bar is, and where I am relative to it. I am so fucking sick cyber-DIR-diving ;-( Of course we can dive anytime, bit there's no substitute for the real thing, getting Andrew and JJ here will be unreal. > I am aware of and have developed techniques to overcome some of my > shortcomings, but most techniques were based on the "I sure hope to hell I > don't have to actually do this one day, or I'm fucked" frame of mind. This > is not a responsible frame of mind for a married guy with 2 young kids. I also have three small children. DIR is the ONLY way I can justify (to myself and my wife, who is familiar with the principles) my tech and especially cave diving. I ONLY dive with 5 other DIR oriented guys her in Melbourne. I hope that when the course comes, I am able to have the same courage of my convictions as you have demonstrated and react accordingly. I salute you. Good luck in getting back in the water at a level to your own satisfaction asap ! ************************************************************************ I would add one other thing. It's often said in any cave course that: "Anyone can call the dive, at any time, for any reason" Jim has exercised that right in the pool (literally). On a testosterone driven list like this, what Jim did takes guts and a very strong, self composed character. Anonymous, point scoring pussies who don't have the basic decency to post under their own name ? ... well that's all I need to know abut their character. Where is this 'hero' going to be when the ship hits the sand ? Would you put your life in the hands of a coward like that .. ? Not this little black duck. Jim, I'd dive with you any day.
