Some minor corrections -

We in SCRET use ditchable weight.  We have our cannister 
light that can be dropped in case of inflation 
problems.  When we dive, we follow the DIR practice of 
proper weighting and diving a balanced rig exactly as 
Trey describes in numerous posts on the subject (stay 
submerged at 10' with minimal gas, swim the rig up from 
the bottom, etc.).  

Live boats and trained crews can't help much at depth.  
That's why we have safety divers in the water during 
deco to help with problems.
