Hi Karla,

Should any potential cave diving student ask this kind of question, or any
other question that I (possibly but not often incorrectly) interpret to be a
request of the form "convince me why I should consider cave diving," my
answer is always the same. "I can't think of a single thing that would ever
make me want to dive in a deep, dark, possibly cold, water filled hole in the
ground. I really don't know what the attraction is. I'm just nuts, I guess.
If you ever figure it out, then I'll be glad to discuss it with you."

I will often do my best to talk students out of cave diving unless, in my
opinion, they posses the attitude, maturity, curiosity and diving skills
necessary to do the diving sanely and safely. And only then if they already
have a driving desire to see the underground world.

I teach cave diving, I don't convince divers that this is something they
ought to try. Fortunately, I don't depend on the income from teaching diving
for my standard of living.

Take care and dive safe, Scott

Some weeks it's just not worth the effort to gnaw through the restraints and
scramble up out of the pit.
