We do. This guy was playing by the rules - gear, gasses etc. and is a good diver. Both myself and Barnette have been diving with him before. Everyone else on the boat was known to someone who vouched for him. We knew this to be an easy dive, not too deep with little or no current and easy to watch everyone on. Thats why it was opened up to newcomers. I agree that you have to take a zero tolerance position. Most of the stuff we do has no margin for error. We mandate appropriate gasses, gear ete. and any one who doesn't play by the rules doesn't get to play. Period. That is a big reason why almost all of our trips are private charters. That is also the reason why more than a few have been pissed off at us. My position is that I am not going to argue to justify what I already know is right to someone living in a time warp. I just stay away. None of want to be around the insanity because no matter what anyone might say, letting someone die or get hurt is not an option. We are going to help and be in danger ourselves. I'm all for anything that enhances safety and want no part of any lunacy. Thats why all of us dive together. If the dive isn't with this group, I stay home and read a book. No matter how good we might think we are, there is ALWAYS room for change and improvment. Complacency kills in this sport. We will rehash and examine this incident to determine what changes, if any, might be useful and implement them. --- Original Message ----- From: George Irvine <girvine@be*.ne*> To: Joseph Citelli <joe@po*.co*>; <trey@ne*.co*>; Wendell Grogan <wgrogan@dc*.ne*>; Jim Cobb <cobber@ci*.co*> Cc: Capt JT <captjt@mi*.co*>; Techdiver <techdiver@aquanaut.com>; Michael Barnette <aocfishman@ho*.co*> Sent: Monday, February 25, 2002 6:43 AM Subject: RE: AUE Keys accident > > Joe, I think you guys need to lay down the law on who dives and how they do > it when it is your show.
