I'm heading out to Palm Springs, CA in May.  I'm planning to work in a
day or two to head out to the coast and dive.  I've never been diving
out there, but have always wanted to do some kelp forest diving.

Can anyone recommend anyplace for diving that won't be too far of a
drive from Palm Springs?  It looks like San Diego is about 100 miles or
so away, so I'd imagine something in that area would be nice - maybe
there's something closer than San Diego.  I'm even looking for specific
boat recommendations and contact info, as well as dive sites.  This
doesn't need to be anything technical or deep, I just want to enjoy S.
Cali diving for what it is...  Also, is May a decent time of year to
even be trying this (currents, vis, temps, etc.)?
